POI (Premature Ovarian Insufficiency)

A diagnosis of premature ovarian insufficiency, where ovarian function declines before age 40, is a significant and often unexpected finding, distinct from typical perimenopause and requiring its own careful approach. Supporting hormone health, bone and cardiovascular health are all part of navigating a POI diagnosis well, whether you have a confirmed diagnosis, suspected POI still being investigated, or a genetic form of POI.

Family history is a genuinely useful piece of information here. Did your mother enter menopause in her forties? Earlier menopause can run in families, and knowing your mother's history is worth gathering early, whether you're exploring a possible POI diagnosis now or simply planning ahead for your own fertility or menopause journey.

As a fertility nutritionist working with a functional medicine approach, I support women with POI, suspected POI and genetic POI through nutrient testing, hormone support and a nutrition plan built around long-term health, working alongside your gynaecologist or endocrinologist.
